Kathy and Rory Chetelat

Glass Sculpture | Charcuterie Boards

We have been married for over 50 years and have been creating a variety of art for more than 25 years. Together we have explored a variety of mediums including wood, wood turning, metal, concrete and glass. Our combined interests have always been in the three dimensional aspects of sculpture.

We first began to work in glass more than 20 years ago, working with stained glass. Even in this medium many of our pieces were dimensional sculptures. We both found that glass was the most challenging and least forgiving of any of the mediums we had experimented with, leading to further our desire to learn more and continue to work with glass. The success of the stained glass led us to look for more creative ways to utilize glass in a variety of art forms. The ideas for our art come for the world around us. We are often inspired by the shapes and colors of nature as well as the textures and designs of modern society.

Once we are inspired to create a piece, the work begins. Our art is created over a period of days to weeks. We often begin with a sketch or discussion of the concept. Then the challenge of assembling the pieces into the sculptural shapes begins. Integrating wood, metal or stone into and around each glass object is done to create a unique creation that incorporates the different colors, shapes and textures of all the mediums we enjoy.

Rory and Kathy are both self-taught artists with backgrounds in areas as diverse as interior design, custom automotive paint design and stained glass creations. They have been honored with best of show ribbons at the Las Cruces Art Festival, Mesquite Art Festival and the Boulder City Art in the Park, as wells as Honorable Mention at the Beverly Hills Art Show. They were the featured artists at the Waterfront Art and Wine Festival in Scottsdale and have been featured in numerous newspaper articles throughout the Southwest.
