The Roxborough Arts Council and the ROX Art Gallery started work on the 13th Annual Banner Project for Kids. Every year we offer a free class for children ages 6 thru teens. Perhaps you have seen the banners prominently displayed around the Aspen Grove Center. Classes were held on February 28th in the ROX Arts Gallery.
Mary Lou Steenrod, who chairs this project, noted that “We had a spectacular turnout this year with 19 students who participated in creating artwork for their banner”. Patricia Jenkins taught three classes on February 28th to keep within current COVID guidelines.
Now the process for creating the banners begins. The following volunteers who make this happen are:
- Tony Lazzeri – He photographs the student artwork
- Jan Berger – She does the image layout for printing
- Tom Cooper – He prints the design on vinyl
- Mary Lou Steenrod – She cuts the banners to size
- Beth Lancaster – She sews the banners for hanging
- Patricia Jenkins – She delivers the banners for Aspen Grove to hang
Our young artists are always delighted to see their work flying high on the Aspen Grove lamp posts. We will let you know when they are hung (usually in early May).
